ENTERING THE ABUNDANT LIFE
"I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly." - John 10:10 Jesus has offered to lead us into peace, joy and abundant life, yet so few of us seem to have peace and joy these days. ARE His promises true? Even in this crazy, modern age that we live in? Are they true for you? We want to invite you to come, and perhaps learn how better to focus on God's presence in your life, and to discover more truth about who God is, and about who you are to Him. These are the truths that God can use to lead us into greater peace and joy in our lives. Don Smith presents a new monthly series:
“Simple Commands” Scripture abounds with many short, simple commands. And because of their brevity, it seems like they should be easy to do. And yet, they end up being quite difficult: “Be perfect. Be content. Give thanks in everything. Give freely. Be anxious for nothing. Forgive.” In fact, the impossibility of consistently living these out leads many of us, if not most of us, to dismiss them as unattainable ideals. But… what if they are not? What if we could actually be content, and free from fear, and overwhelmingly generous? It sounds like it would be a wonderful life, perhaps even the abundant life that Jesus promised. In this new monthly series, we will explore each of these in turn, and in depth, and we will explore the profound truths that undergird them. This will enable us to grow in our ability to live them out. During the month of October, we will explore the apostle’s instruction in Hebrews 13:5, to‘be content’. Is it really possible for us to be content with that which we have? When we live in this consumeristic, materialistic culture where we are bombarded with hundreds of advertisements every day that are designed to make us discontent? Is it possible to be content with our appearance, abilities (or lack thereof), possessions, jobs, churches, spouses, etc? Come explore the scriptural foundations of contentedness, and discover the perspectives and practices that can help you to grow in your own ability to be content. First Sunday of the month: October 1st in Auburn 3:00 pm at St Philip Church 6:00 pm at the Village Inn Restaurant 2nd Sunday of the month: October 8th, Vassalboro 6:00 pm at the St. Bridget Center (Wine and accompanying snacks provided!) |
